My toilet is vintage 1928, solid porcelin. In order to flush it I have to?

My toilet is vintage 1928, solid porcelin. In order to flush it I have to stand and hold the handle until the toilet is drained. If I don't do this it stops flushing as soon as I let go of the handle.
It is a Weil McClain Co - Par Ex toilet.

need to adjust flapper chain or whatever raise the flapper in tank. not opening fully.remove tank lid ,flapper should b in bottom center of tank.depress handle and flapper should raise up as u push handle down.when working ,flapper will appear to float in water after u let go of handle.will close slowly as water goes out.when tank empty flapper closes completely stopping water flow to bottom half.
