My maytag performa keeps filling with water?

I own a Maytag Performa Top Load washer and it's about 5 years old.
My washer doesn't seem to know when it is full so I did some research on this model and found that this could be due to either the water level switch being bad, the air tube could be blocked or obstructed somehow or it could be loose. It also won't agitate-the only thing it still does is spin out.
My question-where is this water level switch and tube located? Do I just take the control panel off and lookin there?
The water level knob is located on the far left of the control panel so I"m thinking it would be behind there nearby?
I love this washer. It does an excellent job of washing my clothes and I ask a lot of my washers. Family of 6 and I do at least 20 loads of laundry a week in this washer. CLothes come out clean and spun well dry.
Thanks in advance for your help!

try turning it off - if the water stops then it is in the water level control. If the water keeps running when turned off then it is the water inlet valve (where the hot and cold water enter the washer)

Thanks to JP's post!

I followed his suggestion and was able to fix our washing machine that was overflowing on fill, and avoid the expense of a repair man who couldn't come out for over a week.

The tube had fallen off the water level control switch.

Hello,

First thing I would do is remove the control panel and take a look at the plastic tube thats connected to the water level switch. It could be off at that end or off at the dome end. Make sure its got a good fit at both ends and has no cracks in it.
