On household interior doors, what is adjusted on the hinge so that a door will stay in the position you want it i.e. partiarlly opened, but not all the way.

if it is a standard door with standard hinges this is not possible you may find some doors stay open by themselves this will be because the frame may be slightly out of upright which forces weight to either the top of the door or the bottom
what this means is a door could constantly open or close depending on how badly it was fitted

a good carpenter will set the door so it stays still wherever you put it
