How do you open the case of a Brother XR 65 machine?

I have the end piece off, as well as all the visible screws from the top/back and bottom of the machine. It seems to be held together in the inner area of the lower arm. Is it just a pressure fit, that can be popped off by sliding a flat head screw driver around the seam? The machine is stuck in reverse, and I should only need to manually reset the reverse, and oil it, but I can't get to it inside. The machine was sitting for a year while we were in the States, so I'm sure it has gunked up a bit.

Yes, the case is just a pressure fit, and you can open it by carefully working the screwdriver around the inner seam. You will hear a couple of snaps, which are the fittings separating. Just don't work it too quickly, or you may break them. There are plastic tools that are also made to do this kind of thing, but if you are careful, a broad, flat head screw driver works fine.
The reversing mechanism is easy to spot and reset, and then oil. Good luck if you have the same problem.
