what is causing my washing machine to leak from underneath?

My husband has decided to do laundry the past couple of days and last night i noticed water coming from underneath. I unplugged the machine and checked the drain hose and the fill hoses and found no problems. I attempted to do a load of laundry myself and as the tub became full i noticed water coming from the bottom of the washer, i imediately drained the washer and unplugged it. I havent noticed the clothes to be too wet after the wash cycle has stopped but the water did smell "old" if that makes any sense. what should i do? My washer is a Maytag Legacy Series model sav205d

sounds like a leaking drain pump, unplug from mains and tilt backwards to look underneath. folow pipework back from drain hose to first main component (drain pump) check connections for leaks / clean filter if fitted ( if sharp object found, possible damage to a hose. replace same. tell tail signs of leak are a white powder scum around hose connections etc. ALSO check door gasket/rubber if front loader for tears.
