Indesit W161 how can I get cover off of pump chamber?

Read instructions from book and cover rotates about 1inch anti-clockwise before sticking. I am frightened to force it.. I take it this cover should come off completely? please help!!! my washing is piling up.. [I know I shouldn't have bought Indesit!]
