I have a nikon d80 that is flashing F in the display!?

How do i get it to stop and take pictures?
Whats wrong with it?
Laura, September 2009
I am in serious dispute with Nikon. My D80 has been faulty from day 1 (Dec 2007) It continually displays the F -- mode in the top display and will NOT then take a picture. Only twisting or removing the lens will get it working. This fault is intermittent but continual. NIKON HAVE HAD 3 REPAIR ATTEMPTS and still it does not work. - This fault is happening to hundreds of people (Google it and check out the Forums) It ALSO HAPPENS ON THE D90 range and the old D70's. - What are Nikon playing at? Anyone any ideas?
Any professionals that can help?
Would Canon or any of the other companies sell such a product?

I have had a similar problem and I took the lens off and cleaned\wiped the contacts on both the camera and lens with a cotton bud. Take care not to touch the lens glass or the camera lens

Hi Laura

If you have the user manual that came with the camera look at the troubleshooting guide for an explanation, but in short I have had this trouble also and I usualy try removing the lens and re attaching, this sometimes works.

The troubleshooting guide says it is because there is no lens attached or the lens is a non cpu one, meaning it doesnt send info on apeture and focal lenth to the camera etc.

It also suggests trying the M mode setting.

hope this helps.
