How can I repair a popped cassette compartment door lid?

My nephew threw a shoe at the player causing the cassette compartment door lid to pop off along with a spring. Is this an easy fix? It is a Sony SLV-D350P DVD Player/VCR Combo. Unfortunately there was a cassette tape still in the player. Will this affect the problem?

You may well be able to continue to use the machine with the door permanently off...

Else you can set it on a table, remove the top cover and replace the door and spring...

Else you can get somebody to do it for you...
