i have just moved some pipes in the bathroom and reconnected them to where they were. the hot water and central heating work fine... though when i turn the cold tap OFF in the kitchen then boiler pump comes on as if its about to fire up but doesn't actually ignite.

any suggestions, is it something to do with a non return switch?

try fitting a mini expansion vessel to the cold inlet below the boiler.

a check valve or one way valve may be in order . did you take one off ?
