panasonic dvd recorder dmr-ez5eb?

Apologies - should also mention the part.
It is a capacitor location C1533 on the main PCB.
630 Micro Farad 6.3v electrolytic.

I had EXACTLY same problem - I've a model DMR EZ25 After searching the internet I found that a capacitor on the main PCB goes bad (VERY COMMON FAULT) - I replaced that today and it fixed completely the problem !
So it cost 20p for part from Farnell components and about an hour to replace. You'd need to be handly with screwdriver and soldering iron but if you know someone who can do it for you then this is the fix.

First switch it off at mains and let it reboot and if this does not cure it, try to rescan all channels again.
