how to make my slideing window stay up?

my sliding window in my bathroom will not stay up,it will slide back down. double hung windows.

on the hinges on the frame side there may be a plastic plate with a small screw.
tightening this will create friction between the hinge and the window frame hence making the sash stiffer to open and close
the screw will be a slotted head type
