How can I stop my Worcester 24i combi boiler vibrating?

Hi,
My boiler is almost 9 years old and now makes the most terrible, screaming vibrating noise when I switch the heat on.
It is not constant, it screams for approx ten seconds then ebbs away then starts again after a minute or so and it's driving me mad!
I have a basic homecare agreement with British Gas, but when the engineer came out he simply said "we don't fix sound" and suggested I use bluetack around the front door casing.
This doesn't work, even when I take the front panel off, it still screams. If I press the front of the boiler however, it stops.
I can't afford a new boiler, but can't bear the sound of it in a small house. Any suggestions gratefully received! :-)

B Gas came out and oiled the fan incase it had got our of balance. However, still vibrating so packed the inside of the case with blue tac and also put lump of blu tack between the hot water downpipe and the outside of the top back of case which are about half an inch apart. This has stopped the vibrating!

Try that and let me know how you get on

Hi Henry

I have a Worcester Celsia 24LE and same thing has happened here. It is 9 10 years old and works fine but it has started vibrating/very loud humming and this gets louder and faster and then clicks off. Also happened when hot water being run but more so the heating. If I press the outer casing in the right place it stops the vibrating. Sounds like the fan getting faster and faster but I am not sure. Did you manage to resolve your issue and how??? Driving me mad too!

Ah, it now makes this terrible noise when the water is on too... :-(

Hi, It only happens when the heating is on, not the hot water.
The noise is not constant, it builds to a crescendo then ebbs away, then builds again a few minutes later... and on and on.

Capitalboilers - I don't know what you mean by sewers - sorry - the noise stops when I press the front or sides, even with the front panel off. BGas suggested I remove some tiles from around the boiler, but the tiles didn't cause any noise for 8 years so I don't know why they should have started now :-)

As an aside - the timer switch must also be broken as this boiler also ticks/clicks loudly constantly.

Urgh. thanks for your help so far!

if you are pushing the cover and the noise stops, then it lose, you need to pack it out with washes on top of the sewers, this is the cheapest way, but it could be the fan or the pump can,t say with out being there to test it

sorry, what i meant was is it a 24i or a 24i junior?

does the noise happen on ch & hw?

not sure about the 24i, but when the junior fires up it goes high fan speed, low fan speed, ignition then back to high speed after a short time. is the noise constant once it's running?
