How can I re-install the oven door on my moffat oven/range?

I removed the oven door to move from one house to another. I cannot get the oven door back on. I don't have make & model details because the oven came with the house that I bought 5 years ago and the previous owners did not leave a manual. I suspect it is approximately 15-20 years old.

Ann Maries answer is closest.

Here is a more detailed step by step process:

Notice there is a small pivoting piece which should move freely on the shorter hinge piece. (If you cant see it, that's because the longer hinge piece is currently in the way but it will become visible later in this detailed process.) Put the oven door on the floor and force the long hinge part towards the short one. This will take a lot of force. I recommend you use multiple layers of a thick material or an old towel to protect your hand. Get the hook on the long hinge piece close enough to the small pivoting piece on the shorter hinge piece, then move the pivot all the way over the hook. Now you are ready to begin installing the door. Lift the door into place and insert the top and bottom pieces into the door uniformly on both sides. Once the longer hinge pieces are engaged so that the door is supported(nothing else matters in fact it will feel like the hinges are not fully in place but thats ok), move the pivots on both sides OFF of the hook and then simply close the oven door. Ouila!!! (I was incredulous when it worked!)

after forcing down the long hooks down towards the shorter L shaped latches i used haywire to join both the loop and long upper hook together then installed door parallel to stove once i heard the clunk cut the haywire and remove flip back dogs then close door, i used a long wrench to force the latch down and an assistant to install haywire. good luck and watch your fingers jake

the advice works. however it fails to mention that the longer prongs can be a real BUGGER to get connected to the shorter ones with the hook and loop. Hope you have muscle....

Barbara,

There should be two prongs coming out of your door, one long, one short. They hook onto each other. The long prong has a hook, the short one has a loop. You might need a screwdriver to do this. Once they are hooke on slide the door into the slots on the face of the oven so that the door is parallel to the ground. You should hear a clunk when they are hooked in. Once this happens you have to unhinge the loop and hook from the prongs in order to shut the door. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Good Luck. Let us know how you made out.
