bosch exxcel 1400?

We have had our machine for 2 or 3 years and it has never washed well. There are often black/dark specks on the clothes after a wash too. In the early days Bosch advised us to run a very hot wash from time to time as the problem was due to bacteria caused by low temperature washes. This helped but it never happened with other machines before and I suspect it is using far too little water - there are often traces of detergent remaining on washed clothes. I wondered if Bosch had obtained their low energy rating at the expense of using sufficient water or power to get the job done for which the machine was purchased? Perhaps we have always had a faulty machine which is not filling sufficiently? - Anyone tell me how to tweak the fill levels?

Me again..... Got round to taking the top off and turning the adjusters. A fraction of a turn clockwise has done the trick for wash level but rinse level is now way too high! Unfortunately there are three possible adjusters - bottom one for small flat blade (adjusted) and two immediately above for star/torx blade which did not seem to do anything so I turned them back to roughly their original settings. Do I have a faulty switch or can I get all levels right by turning the appropriate screw? If the latter, which adjusts what and does clockwise increase (as I think) or lower the level?

Thanks a lot - I'd hoped there may be an adjuster but thought everything would be factory set and expensive or impossible to increase the water level. I'll let you know if this fixes it.
