Why does my boiler stay alight?

my boiler stays alight after the programmer has switched off the pump then turns off but boiler keeps on going and then pressure makes pipes rattle and bang like mad can u help

if it's a combi then it'll be a sticking flow switch, if a regular boiler then a sticking microswitch on a motorised valve.
