dyson dc04 motor starts to arc on brushes and terrible smell of burning. By removing the capacitor between the red and blue supply wire cures the problem

its really simple just clip out the yellow switch, to do this slide a slim screw driver or knife down the side of the switch nearest to the vacuum cleaner, flick the switch out and you will see a screw, undo the screw and slide the whole unit up from underneath from where the flex goes in and hey presto its out just replace the cable or attach it with a junction box and your cooking on gas again.

i have also had this problem and being a repair nut have managed to do something about it. the place the cable goes into whwere the switch is, is cleverly sealed up. this means a repair shop can charge you or better still for dyson you buy another cleaner!. what has actually happened is that the wires at the end of the cable inside the clener have frayed and/or pulled out from the junction box inside the cleaner. I purchsed a simple mains power conecting box from homebase.( the one you would buy to join two mains power leads together....its sealed and quite safe) cut the lead before it goes inside the claener at the top of the handle... and also just below the switch unit. connect the two together in your new box and the problem is solved. it means you have to turn the cleaner on and off at the mains.... but it also saves you about a £40 bill from your repair shop for supply and fitting of a simple switch which should not go wrong anyway!

hope this helps

First of all STOP using your machine if it is intermitent when in use there is a break in the cable and a danger of electric shock.
you should take it to a local repair centre or phone Dyson as special tools are required to repair this fault.
