How do I fix Sony dual deck cassette player? -- tapes stuck in both decks?

I have Sony dual deck cassette player TC-WR720A. In both decks, tapes are stuck in decks, tapes will not play, doors will not open. How can I remove the tapes without destroying the player and can I fix the problem or must I trash the player?

I have released my cassette but now it wont play any other cassettes I try and play. Also that lever keeps popping back up, locking the doors once again?????

I have ordered the capstan belts 1-01-07 should have in two weeks. I keep you posted.

I believe it might be the drive belts. If you watch the drive pulleys when you turn the unit on you should notice that these belts are slipping. I am searching for replacements. I have accessed the belt drive area. There is a lot of fragile wire connections. Please label all connectors before proceeding.
I will keep this page updated when new info developes

The above fixed worked for us - to get the tape out of the A deck on Sony TC-WR665S. However, the stuck "play" mode problem keeps happening, essentially rendering the unit dead. Not worth the cost of repair at this point, I'm afraid.

Take the top/side cover off (4 screws on side) and you'll be able to see the release mechanism. There will be a small white plastic piece which is blocking the release mechanism.
Push that piece down with a small screw driver while you push the open button.

This happened to me when I tried to play a sticking tape.
I think it thinks it's still in play mode and prevents you from opening the cover.
