how to fix my sony vaio's screen?

When ever I turn on my vaio laptop it turns on but the screen doesen't show anything. It can't be the operating system because it has been runing untillnow. Even when I plug a moniter in to the back it it only shows a black screen.

The backlights have gone in the laptop screen unit..they will need replacing.You can do it your self but youll risk damaging your screen beyond repair because it involves seperating the screen layers..only for professionals im afraid.
