how do i change the door seal

My door seal needs replacing which i am capable of doing myself however i will have to wait 5 days for the seal to arrive. As you can imagine with 2 kids the laundry is stacking up so heres a tip to get you out of trouble. Clean and dry the glass door and the seal. Run a bead of silicone bathroom sealant around the seal, Wipe the glass door all over with neat washing up liquid thus applying a verry thin coating that the silicone wont stick to, shut the door and leave overnight. This should then create a watertight seal that will last until a permanent fix can be done

Likewise, ours is producing a grey granular detritis and the only solution would seem to be to replace the door seal, but it's not that obvious. Any advice, short of a plumber or washing machine engineer, would be welcome.
