fitting an electric timer to central heating system?

Can a timer be used on a central heating system which only has 2 time settings on it, to enable the heating to click on and off a few times a day instead of the settings that are on the heating timer. in other words can a heating timer be overriden with a separate electric timer

It could - but you would need your heating dial set to continuous if it was controlled by an external timer.
