the pedal on my singer 201k gets very hot after being plugged in for about 1/2hr - even if i dont use the machine, why is this and do i need to replace it?

undo the foot control and take out the suppressor and discard it, that may be the cause, you don't need it these days, you should get some warmth from the foot control though.
