are dvd parts dangerous?

My friend and I had an idea to make jewelry from our broken dvd player but someone told me the parts are dangerous. Is there any truth to this?

stay clear of the large cap in the power supply, as they can hold a charge - leave it unplugged for about a week to be sure

depends what part you are using, but as a rule all the bit are encapsulated so you are fine making anything you want with it, it may be of harm to you if you intend to solder the items due to the fumes from the solder itself and the lead content
