Dimmer switch won't switch off?

Light bulb won't switch off fully even when I fully turn the dimmer switch knob (till it clicks). You don't press it in on this model. It was working for years without a problem, so thinking it was a switch fault I installed a new dimmer, but I still have same problem. Any help is greatly appreciated as it's baffling me

I'm not using low energy bulbs so that's not the issue. I've fitted another dimmer switch, this time the type that you press in/out and seems to have cured that particular problem. Now though if you turn the knob fully the light bulb flickers, turning it back slightly stops the flicker so much less of an issue. Should I be worried about the flicker?

... Or LEDs which still glow when they're switched off?
Try temporarily replacing the dimmer with an ordinary switch and see if the problem is still there - then you can determine whether the problem lies with the dimmer or elsewhere.

You aren't using energy efficient bulbs, which aren't suitable for dimmers, are you?
