Thank you for letting me know about the CCD repair program JVC has. I had the same "lens cap" failure as described by the original poster and called JVC. They told me to send the camera to their NJ repair facility for a free repair. I'll post the outcome once I get the camera back!

JVC has recieved many complaints!!! your ccd board is bad they are fixing them for free go to jvc web site and look under customer notification. they are fixing them untill october of 2007
