main fuse box trips out?

the upstairs and downstairs consumer unit swich trips, at different times.sometimes just one appliance on sometimes more. how to mend it please

it tripped fist time this mornin,first thing,she put the iron on, been ok till this evening,chargin the mob pulled the plug then ' oops' unplugged, ok for 2hrs the 'oops' off again, only 3 things still standin, modem router and puter and fridge/freezer, we,ll see.

You have to apply a bit of science here, to try and isolate which circuit is at fault....if its the RCCB thats tripping you are looking for an earth / neutral fault (at this time) so try switching each individual circuit off in turn (lights, cooker, immersion heater, ring main etc) then try switching each appliance on in turn to get the main unit to trip...you should be able to narrow things down to a certain house area, at least. Pay special attention to any sockets that appear to be loose to the wall - sometimes there can be a bare cable behind. TAKE CARE WITH THIS AND LEAVE IT ALONE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
