How to disable Touch Pad?

I find the touch pad and buttons on my Advent 9117 laptop a b*****y nuicance as I keep resting my hand on themas I type. I use a usb mouse instead. BUT how can I disable the touch pad and buttons?

My touchpad on my 9117 went faulty and started open and deleting items, i pulled the cable from the motherboard, its a small ribbin cable no bigger than 5mm across, you can get to the mother board by opening the inspection panel underneath the laptop, i just use a standard usb mouse now, mush better!!!

Me too - seek out an ALPS touchpad driver, download and install it - Control Panel - Printers and Other Hardware - Mouse - Options to disable or enable the various pointer inputs and clicky buttons. Life becomes much easier.

Good luck...
