How to stop leak between cistern and Pan?

Is there an easy & fool proof way of fitting a close coupled cistern to the pan. I have tried umpteen times but the water leaks past the 'doughnut' and ends up on the floor. I am fast resorting to a bucket to replace the loo!!!

Fair enough...I just prefer the belt and braces approach when it comes to these things. J :-)

I don't agree with the silicone. My donuts are on-the-rocks so to speak...

As below...but always use a new doughnut washer, and a good squirt of silicone around its edges for good measure. The cistern will also have a natural position where it sits on the pan....hopefully 90 deg. Try not to disturb this when you put it back to the wall.
(I have been disappointed often by Bathstore stuff).

I had a problem with a Bathstore close coupled cistern.

The syphon tube projected too far into the hole in the pan causing an interference at the back - the cistern was tipped slightly forward - you can check for this by squinting sideways at the donut washer - if not parallel then you may have this problem. The solution is to saw 3mm or so from the end of the projecting pipe.

Good luck...

If the seal is in a good order then I can only think you are either tightening it too much or the pressure is uneven.
