my recorder was working ok until last week when the clock and the recording mechanism went blank infact the whole front went blank and the dvd drawer wouldn't open.
I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the blue stand by light came on but that's all the dvd drawer still won't open.

Same thing here - just a weak blue led. I suspect planned obsolescence. Opened it up as warranty has expired - tested volts - looks like a power card fault as no 3v and 5v supply to hdd, prob a regulation stage down. I've read up on this dabs unit and have decided not to attempt a fix as there are so many different reasons posted for it failing. Saiyanora Wharfedale.
