Diplomat HJA 8703 washer/dryer - button panel detached?

On pressing the 'start' button on my washing machine (Diplomat HJA 8703) the buttons became detached from the front panel. They are still connected by wires and the machine still works although you have to stick a pen through the holes to push the buttons! How do I access the buttons to re-attach them? Via the front panel or the top of the machine? The washing machine is built-in to the work top so I'm hoping it isn't the top! Any advice would be appreciated.

Yep, it's a simple fix. As Ernie says, slide it out, unscrew the top then screw the button panel into place.

Is it possible to repair the inner drum bearing

Ernie, October 2013
I know it is too late for others but for any later users who have the same problem.
Switch power off to machine.
Slide it out from the unit it is built in ( onloy as far as you need to access the 4 x hex screws holding the top panel on.
Remove these four screws and take off the top panel and put it aside.
You should then be able to see the switch panel which is normally clipped to the back of the front panel. The plastic retaining clips can break off causing the button panel do what yours has.
However all is not lost if they are broken as the switch panel should have screw holes at the top and bottom centre of it.
Just get a small self tapping screw and screw it through the top hole with the button panel held in position and clipped with any remaining unbroken lugs. This should prove a good enough fix to hold the panel as long as you remember to go easy when operating the buttons.
It is a bit fiddly getting the screw to the hole but it can be done - I suggest the use of a magnetised stubby screwdriver.
Put the top panel back on slide the machine back in it's housing and job done.
Dont throw your machine away because of this fault it will take a max 30 mins from start to finish.

Got it repaired in the end. To access the button panel you need to pull the machine out and undo the nuts on the top panel.

Hi there L.,

It's still in the same state and am also wondering if it is worth repairing. Have you had yours repaired yet?

Hi, can you please tell me what happened to your machine in the end. We have the same problem and don't know if it is worth repairing.
Many thanks.
