I suspect that one of the children leaned on the door when it was open, hence the requirement to put a chair up against it to keep it closed when being used (although that's not always successful!). Any ideas on what needs to be done?
My DWF44SS.1 Smeg dishwasher handle has snapped off. I have bought a door handle, flap, spring but the inner handle part is too big. I got them from the Smeg shop. I cannot find a small inner handle on line. Any ideas please?

Either the door lock is defective or maybe even the door mechanism is deformed (especially if the kids have been dancing on it while it was open). I suggest you ask a service tech to check it out.
