Confusing statements
"tv transformer lead appears to have broken down"
"lead to t.v. which attaches to the transformer appears to be o.k"
No matter - it's OK to treat the cable to the transformer and the tansformer as one entity or two separate things - just replace the broken part.
Unless you're talking about the Line Output Transformer that has a plug to the back of the tube.... Several thousands of volts - shockingly dangerous.
