you need a linkage kit im afraid, just had same problem £153.00 for a new part from vauxhall.
make sure u stress if it a mk1 or mk2 as they are different ( the mk2 is about £60.00)

Hi where the linkage goes on the gear box there is a bolt that clamps your gear stick rod onto the linkage it might be out of alinement which will make it so you cant get the gears so untighten and move the clamp around only a bit at a time you only need a touch hope this helps
