lighting problem?

we have an old light fitting in our kitchen with 3 black 3 red and 2 yellow & green in it there is all three of the reds together just going into a multiway 2 of the blacks go to one side and down to the bulb and 1 of the blacks goes down to the bulb also, (above the light socket it has 3 x 3 core wires).we have brought a new light fitting but it just has the earth live and neutral but we dont know witch wires goes to where.
p.s the light switch is a double switch witch also has the switch for the livingroom.

If you're doing away with the ceiling rose you need to arrange some kind of terminal box (block) arrangement that allows for the same connection scheme as you have described - The three red wires still need to connect to one another and to nothing else.

If the light has an earth make sure you connect it to the earth wires...

The Two blacks together are Neutral - the Blue wire of the lamp should connect to these

The single Black on its own is Switched Live (i.e. Live from the switch that comes on and off as the switch is operated) This wire should connect to the lamp's Brown wire.

In an ideal world the Single Black (switched live) should have a red or brown sleeve on it for identification - to show that it's not a Neutral even though it may look like it.

Good luck... Take care...
