how to fix dishwasher?

whirlpool 6th sense dishwasher ADP7966. Start button is flashing. Have to hold start button for approx. 5 sec 'til stops flashing, then 10 seconds later it starts on pre wash then continues to go through cycle. Not washing dishes properly.
