My Cannon Carress open flame gas fire goes out when set on the low setting, it also will not stop on when lighting from cold, is this a faulty thermo coupling?

I have this fire and this always happens when the coupling gets blocked with soot from the coals, usually if you have had them a while like myself. You can undo this on the left hand side where it ignites and clean all of the holes out and it should be fine for another six months.
