how do you change an alternater on vauxhall astra 1700dt

i had mine changed on my astra 1.7 dti Ls last year. It was the Isuzu engine and it cost £180 (fitted) It had a vaccuum pump on it and powered the steering too. From what the mechanic told me you have to jack the bugger up, and remove the plastic guard from the underside of the engine bay to get access. You may have to release the tensioner, then disconnect it from the battery and unbolt. it looks pretty straightforward, as long as you can get to it. best bet is definatly a haynes book though.

this needs some one with experience
it can be quite a fiddly job depending on which of the many models of engines that vauxhall use
Look in your local newspapers there are adverts from mobile mechanics who can be very price competitive
who should be able to help you

There was a question on here a few weeks ago - chap changed the alternator on a Range Rover - turned out that the fault was just the "charging" light had blown.

Haynes Manuals can be had from some libraries, Halfords and Amazon
