Depends on what password was entered and whether it is the Windows password or one of several that could be associated with the ThinkPad. One of the deep hardware passwords turns the ThinkPad into scrap if you lose it.
I'd start by getting the password from your girl friend. Next you could try the Hardware Maint. Manual on www.lenovo.com.
Remember these passwords are there to protect you e.g. If your ThinkPad was stolen with the deep password on it, it would be useless to the thief.
