My computerwill not stay on?

My computer will not boot up or anything . I figured i would just reload windows xp which is what it has on it already. Well it wont stay running long enough to do that? somebody please help me

Hi, April, from the first answer, i would say it is a heat issue with the processor, can you get into the bios of the computer to look at any heat temperatures? or fan speeds? a cpu fan speed of zero is going to tell you the fan isnt turning anymore, a temperature of anymore then about 70 degrees C will point to a heat issue for sure

There could be a couple of problems. One is that your power supply is not working properly and therefore not getting enough power to the processor which will make the fan not work and the processor will overheat, which will cause the computer to shutdown or restart.
