Maytag LAT8606AAE Motor slide springs?

The Maytag Dependable Care Model LAt8606AAE I have stopped Spinning while I was outside. My daughter came out to tell me it was making a loud noise and smelled like rubber was burning! When I asked her how long ago did it start she said about 10 mins. ago OK She is a 15 year old and was busy doing homework and sending text messages.

So being a first time Maytag Repair Man. I have been working by trial and error. So far I have Replaced both belts, taken off the larger pulley under the transmission and cleaned it thoroughly and then wiped it down with rubbing alcohol, cleaned the motor pulley and water pump pulley. I reassembled and now I have to manually help it start spinning. Once I do that it finishes fine. Everything else seems to be working good. Finally I noticed there are 3 holes for springs on the Motor carriage 2 on the left and 1 one the right. I tried to find information about if it needs all 3 springs or if both are suppose to be on the left with 0 on the right? Couldn't find anything so I took one from the left and put it on the right. Could this be part of my problem too?

I had the same problem as you!! I've also found that my maytag washer only had two springs on the left and the right side was empty. i thought something was wrong too, but ive found that they only sell the replacement springs in sets of two. However it still doesnt seem to be enough to keep the tention on the belts... If you figure it out, i hope you'll let me know!

They usually have 2 springs on the left & the right hand hole is empty. Don't know why they supply 3 holes but only 2 springs.
