radiator temp guage stopped working?

my vauxhall meriva 1.3 diesel: the radiator coolant temp. gauge has stopped working!-any possible reasons?

because it is a vauxhall and everything fails sooner rather than later.Try to find the tempereture sender unit,disconnect the plug and short the pins out to see if the gauge reads fully hot.if so then get a new sender
