re blocked toilet?

I am doing the mop/tshirt/bag method to unblock my loo and although its working great as a plunger whilst doing so its spirting water and gunk out of the basin plughole!!!! and still no unblocked toilet AAARRRRGGGHHH

It's possible that your toilet itself is not blocked and that there's a blockage downstream - if you have an inspection pit outside, lift the lid and take a peek - if the "blocked" toilet is an upstairs one be prepared for a small foul fountain.

The outlet of my pit blocks from time to time - the first I know about it is that the water rises further up the WC pan than normal when flushing - then slowly sinks back.

I clear the blockage not by pushing into the outflow pipe but by pulling backwards - it takes about ten minutes. Better in winter - less pong. I use a six foot length of plastic barrier pipe - much easier than drain rods.
