My miele w404plus light flashes on rinse and cycle stops?

When programme starts it takes in water then rinse light flashes, cycle stops, drains water and finishes. It's only 6yrs old and an engineer has told me today it will need a new motor costing £400 +. Can anyone help or has had simular problems
