If the fuse in the mains plug is okay, it could be a faulty door switch. Try giving the door a bit of a slam with the start button on. Sometimes if the switch is faulty, it will start. If it starts, it is only a matter of time before it fails altogether. A new one costs about £15 to £20 (eBay) and you do not even have to take the lid off the machine to replace it. It's important to unplug the machine from the mains, as the switch carries 230 volts. You simply remove the big plastic clip securing the rubber door seal to the front machine case and peel the right hand side of the seal away from the front case. (Don't disturb the seal further inside near the stainless steel drum as these are difficult to refit without experience) Unscrew the two screws securing the switch and it will pull towards the gap where the door seal is undone. The cables are attached to the switch via a plug connector. There is also a vacuum pipe to disconnect as well.
