leaking hot water cistern?

the cistern is about 40yrs old situated in the attic and is fed from the mains then fills the boiler and heating system. we moved in 3yrs ago and noticed the cistern had no lid. today i cleaned it out and scraped all inside. there is now a small leak at one of the seams. can it be repaired?

I know known product that would effect a permanant repair and you're better off having the tank replaced.
You will sleep nights and go on holiday happy you have a sound water tank.
