Small traces of baked on dirt left on the crockery after drying are just broken down bits of food debris held in the rinsing water. Rinse Aid is intended to help the rinsing water drain off more efficiently before the drying process begins.
Use a good quality Rinse Aid
Top up with salt when required
Clean the filters at the bottom now and again
Check the rotating arms for blockages (jam pot labels etc)
Run a clkeaning tablet in the machine every few months
But above all use Rinse Aid and avoid the multi-tablets if you can
