losing pressure and magic eye sooting up?

I recently bought a secondhand grant vortex oil combi and I am having problems with it. The pressure is dropping on it constantly and it is leaking water (I take it the two are related). Also I dont think the oil flow is correct as the magic eye keeps on sooting up which stops the burner from firing. Do I need to turn the screw clockwise to get a cleaner burn.

having read ur question again-if it is losing pressure quickly could be a sign that cracks are larger than what we had - so it might be bad news as you'll need the housing to be replaced-think could be costly

dont know the boiler but having had similar one if the leak around the housing holding water and the igniter it could be a sign that this metal housing has cracks which allows water to enter the oil/air compartment and the reason why not firing up properly-if this is true the oil chamber will be full with oil and a lot of water - we had a local guy knew them inside out and he syphoned out the oil/air chamber - fired up and all was well but advised to ensure unit not to be switched off for long periods as the water would seep through so we allowed timer to put heat on each day for short time - its still working 6 years after!good luck
