Dear Ron, I own and play a violin and a viola. I have taken them to a skilled instrument maker/repairer and have seen the rather curious instrument which they use to insert and move the sound post. My main point it this. The exact position of the bridge and sound post make a huge difference to the sound of the instrument, and I feel you would be best to get a specialist to do this if you want to get the best sound for your instrument
