Without any Electronic repair experience then you will not be able to repair your JVC yourself. There are many components inside your JVC that can go Bang from a simple Fuse to an Electrolytic Capacitor or an I.C. or Diode. Also It would be very difficult to say exactly what has gone bang without actually looking inside which I would strongly sugest you do not do yourself due to the dangers of electric shock. Whilst the JVC is faulty Do Not plug the mains lead back in as the fault condition that you describe could result in a Fire Hazard. Having a unit repaired by a main dealer is always an expensive business so why not look in the Yellow Pages for a more local repair shop to you who will more than likely halve the price that you have been quoted.
