Bobbin problem with my old Singer 427?

Hello folks, Can anyone help?
I have recently aquired an old Singer 427 machine, and it was working perfectly (for a while).

My problem is, the bobbin mechanism has stopped working,....it does not rotate at all.
I assume it is something simple, because it was working perfectly, up until i realised the thread was not being brought up.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Neil.

I have the same problem as Neil. I have found a replacement gear. Would be grateful if 'drivewithken' could supply retiming instructions.

Ken, Thank you so much: That is exactly what has happened.
The lower of the two nylon gears (top of machine) has broken teeth.
I will see if i can get a replacement.

One question though if you don't mind, is it easy enough to remove the top two nylon gears?...(I might aswell replace both) or do you have any instructions for this?
Thank you Ken, You have been VERY helpful!
Neil.

Hello Neil,
I have a feeling that either the top gear or bottom gear has broken, take the top off the machine and look at the nylon gear directly in front of you, turn the balance wheel by hand and both gears should turn, if the bottom does not then you need to replace it, if the top gear is okay then take the bottom off the machine and look directly under the raceway area where the bobbin case is and you will see two gears, turn the balance wheel and see if the gears move, the gears are quite easy to get even on ebay and I have full instructions for replacing and retiming.
Ken
