Dishwasher will not start?

I have an Indesit IDL40 dishwasher that just very slightly hums when turned on, but nothing else happens. Lights turn on in correct place for each setting but it just will not start.
What can i do??

could be something jammed in the pump causing it to hum but not work.need to remove pump and check
